OMD: Atlantis is Waiting

I would like to take this day to talk about a Disney movie that was practically brushed under the rug because it wasn't "cool enough".

Way back in 2001 (June 3 to be exact, which is coming up soon!) - The Walt Disney Company released a new kind of movie. It used new technology to make it both an animation and a 3D component. It had breathtaking scenery, epic music and was based on the mythology of the Lost city of Atlantis.

I was able to see this in theater's and it was AMAZING!

I felt it was the absolute best movie to come out of Disney in a long time. It had everything. And it was Steampunk!

And really, Michael J. Fox was the lead voice actor!

I think, of all the underrated movies that are brushed aside, this one gets a lot of flack.

Right, so if you haven't seen it the plot is this:

Atlantis was buried beneath the sea because they were vain and thought they were better than the gods.

Flash forward to the roaring '20's!

Milo Thatch has been researching Atlantis his entire life. When he gets the Shepherd's journal he realizes this is the chance of adventure! The Journal outlines the exact route and way to reach the fabled city of Atlantis.

Backed by his Grandfather's eccentric best friend, Milo embarks upon a quest to find the fabled city.

For history!

He is joined by a rather rumbucktious crew consisting of:
      Preston B. Whitmore - the eccentric friend who finances the entire expendicture
      Commander Lyle Tiberius Rourke -leader of the expedition and in charge
      Helga Sinclair - Rourke's right hand woman, in charge of keeping things running
      Gaetan Moliere - a Frenchman who loves digging and dirt of any kind
      Joshua Sweet - Doctor extradoniare! He can saw through anything in less than ten seconds
      Vincenzo "Vinny" Santorini - An Italian with a pechance for explosives. And paper clips. Big ones.
      Audrey Ramirez - Mechanic, and a girl you don't want to mess with
      Jebidiah Allardyce "Cookie" Farnsworth - Cook, best with the three food groups: Beans, bacon and lard
      Wilhelmina Packard - the Woman in charge of radio and keeping things running


When they reach the city of Atlantis though, not everything is as it seems.


Do yourself a favor - head over to Netflix where you can find the Lost City of Atlantis with Milo and the others.


Also: First movie Disney made that used stock sound from Skywalker Sound and Industrial Lights and Magic.


Please, go check it out. This is one of my absolute favorite Disney movies of all time.

WIP: MerMay

Eventually I was going to have to do a post about this.

It's been unofficially officialy for the past few years that the month of May would be one filled with mermaid pictures all over the web. Well, last year I tried to keep up with it (fell out because I'm not the best artist) - but this year I've managed to do some almost each day. I've been posting them on Instagram, copied to Facebook, and upon occasion on Deviantart.

Here are a few little mermaids I've drawn so far for this year. They were all referenced from photos, but done freestyle, so please: Critics are welcomed. (Though understand, I'm a writer, not an artist! ....well, techincally, they're both under the same heading and one could debate that a writer is an artist in regards to making up an entire world with characters and what not - while the artist is the one who brings them to life in a portrait to portray to others. Umm.....I lost my train of thought there. Good golly what a diatribe!)

Day Late and A Few More Dollars Short

I've been sick for almost a week now. Think I'm at the tail end.

Let's just say I completely forgot it was Tuesday until 11:30 last night and I refused to turn my laptop back on.

Theatre Review: First Things First

Now I know today would normally be Book Nook, or Classic Corner, but in I've decided to change it up. Because I can.

Tonight I was invited my a friend to come see her show at Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn. It was the final dress, so I was lucky enough to see it before the masses.

What makes this show even better (for me) is that I know 5/6ths of the cast, and have had the opportunity to work with them on a previous performance.


I don't want to give too much away, which means I'm really just giving the show a plug. (It's how theatre people support each other.)

To quote the playbill, ahem:

"These unlikely events take place in Pete's and Sarah's house in the suburbs of a big city."

I honestly didn't mean for that to rhyme. But there you go.

With the new month ahead of us - and it being the first and all that - I think you know what's happening next. It's only once a year, but I will always likely post it.

Now then, with that well taken care of. Since this is the first of the month I get to pick a topic and randomly talk about it all.
